Factors influence the development of language learning using the computer over more than 50 years
One of the factors that influence language learning using computer is the motivation. Language learners tends to be motivated to learn the language if they can do it by doing something new. As we all know, computers or technology in general evolves rapidly. Nearly every single year, the components are improved for a better performance. Another key factor is comprehensible input. As we all know, by using computers, all informations are on the tip of the fingers. Linguist Stephen Krashen is known for developing the input hypothesis of second-language acquisition. In this context, the titular “input” is the language curriculum. Krashen wrote that teaching at just any level of difficulty isn’t sufficient: the input received by a student must be comprehensible. In other words, the curriculum must reach a child at their current level and challenge them with activities and just 1 level beyond their current stage. If the material feels out of reach, the student can feel “shut down” and have trouble engaging with the lesson. By using computers, all of these can prevented as the students can learn at they own pace and space. Learning in classroom without using computers can be boring and some students tend to be left behind. That is the reason that have influenced language learning through computers in the 50 years.
